El objetivo de la presente revisión sistemática consistió en determinar el efecto de la comunicación en el ámbito sanitario sobre la kinesiofobia. Para ello, se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en siete bases de datos entre noviembre de 2022 y febrero de 2023. La revisión se efectuó acorde a la declaración Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) y para el análisis de la calidad metodológica se utilizaron: la escala Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), los criterios de Van Tulder y el análisis del riesgo de sesgo de la Colaboración Cochrane. Se incluyeron un total de 13 artículos que presentaron una calidad metodológica media de 7,1 sobre 10. Se obtuvieron resultados significativos para al menos una variable (kinesiofobia, discapacidad o nivel de actividad física) en 12 trabajos. Existe evidencia sólida de que la comunicación puede influir sobre la kinesiofobia del sujeto. Es más probable que esta influencia ocurra en un sentido negativo o discapacitante, pero también puede actuar en sentido positivo disminuyendo la misma. (AU)


The aim of the present systematic review was to determine the effect of communication in the health care setting on kinesiophobia. To this end, a literature search was conducted in seven databases between November 2022 and February 2023. The review was carried out following the PRISMA statement and for the analysis of methodological quality we used: PEDro Scale, Van Tulder criteria and risk of bias analysis of the Cochrane Collaboration. A total of 13 articles were included with a mean methodological quality of 7.1 out of 10. Significant results were obtained for at least one variable (kinesiophobia, disability or level of physical activity) in 12 articles. There is strong evidence that communication can influence a subject's kinesiophobia. This influence is most likely to be in a negative or disabling sense, but it can also act in a positive sense by decreasing it. (AU)

Over the past decade, food safety has become a major concern due to the intensive use of pesticides. Pesticide contamination has been observed in poultry products when seeds are coated with pesticides or when stored products are exposed to pesticides in warehouses. In this experiment, the residue levels of malathion transferred from corn grain to the different parts of the chicken product, its transfer factors (TFs) and the human dietary risk for consumers were evaluated. Growth performance and carcass parameters of the chicken samples were also determined after different doses of malathion exposure. Malathion residues from different parts of chicken meat (breast, thigh, wing, liver and skin) were extracted by the QuEChERS method and analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrophotometry (LC-MS/MS). A deterministic approach was used to calculate the acute and chronic risk assessment. Body weight, feed conversion ratio and feed intake decreased with increasing malathion dose. In addition to reduced feed intake, cold carcass and liver weights of the chicks were also decreased. The highest residues were found in the skin of the chicken followed by the breast, thigh, wing and liver. The TFs of malathion varied between 0.00 and 0.05 according to the different doses applied (4 mg/kg, 8 mg/kg, 16 mg/kg, 32 mg/kg). The chronic exposure assessment (HQ) showed that consumers of all ages and genders consumed 0.008-0.604% of the acceptable daily intake (0.3 mg/kg body weight (bw)/day) of malathion from chicken products. The acute intake assessment (aHQ) of consumers ranged from 0.00015 to 0.0135% of the acute reference dose (0.3 mg/kg bw). In conclusion the results suggest that the risk associated with the malathion residues in chicken meat was found to be low but the residue levels in meat should not be ignored.

Introduction: This study empirically investigates the attitude of tobacco and alcohol consumers towards health insurance purchase in India. The study aims to determine the factors which plays a significant role in determining the purchase intention of health insurance among tobacco and alcohol consumers. Methods: We propose an extended theory of planned behavior (TPB) model comprising factors like attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavior control, perceived usefulness, perceived product risk, and intention to purchase. We collected responses from 420 tobacco and alcohol consumers through a Google Form link shared via different social media platforms. SPSS has been used to perform exploratory factor analysis, whereas AMOS has been used to validate the constructs, confirm the relationships among the variables, and analyze the data. Results: The analysis outcomes demonstrate that subjective norms, perceived product risk, and perceived behavioral control are the factors that have a positive and significant effect on health insurance purchase intention among consumers. Discussion: This research offers valuable insights to the insurance sector, government officials, policymakers, and academicians. Insurance companies may consider the criteria analysed when creating policies to promote the expansion of the health insurance sector.

With the increasing popularity of e-commerce live streaming, understanding purchase intentions for cultural heritage products in this context is crucial, prompting the analysis based on the ABC attitude theory. This study investigates how creative products of intangible cultural heritage influence consumers' purchase intentions within the framework of e-commerce live streaming. It further explores the mediating influence of consumer satisfaction in this association, utilizing the ABC attitude theory. The research design encompasses dimensions related to creative products of intangible cultural heritage, e-customer satisfaction, and purchase intention. Confirmatory factor analysis and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) are utilized to examine the research hypotheses. The study reveals that perceived product quality, perceived interactivity, and professionalism among streamer factors, as well as perceived entertainment among scene factors, positively influence consumer satisfaction. Additionally, intangible cultural heritage has a positive effect on consumers' purchase intention toward creative products of intangible cultural heritage. Furthermore, consumer satisfaction serves as a mediating factor in the relationship between perceived product quality, perceived professionalism and interactivity, perceived entertainment, and consumers' purchase intention. This study is limited to creative products of intangible cultural heritage and involved a relatively small sample size. Moreover, certain perceptual dimensions of e-commerce live streaming were excluded from the analysis. Originality/value - This study contributes to the existing literature on the ABC theory by developing a model that examines consumer satisfaction and purchase intention. The model employed in this study integrates perceptual dimensions pertaining to creative products of intangible cultural heritage within the framework of e-commerce live streaming, utilizing the ABC theory. Additionally, this research contributes to addressing a gap in the existing literature by specifically focusing on the category of creative products of intangible cultural heritage within the broader discourse on dimensions in e-commerce live streaming. Thus, this study presents numerous diverse perspectives that can serve as a basis for further research into the integration of e-commerce live streaming and cultural and creative products associated with intangible cultural heritage.

In accordance with Article 6 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, the applicant BASF SE submitted two requests to the competent national authority in Spain and Ireland to modify the existing maximum residue levels (MRLs) for the active substance fluxapyroxad in kaki/Japanese persimmons and in cultivated fungi, respectively. The data submitted in support of the requests were found to be sufficient to derive MRL proposals for kaki/Japanese persimmons and cultivated fungi. Adequate analytical methods for enforcement are available to control the residues of fluxapyroxad on the commodities under consideration at the validated LOQ of 0.01 mg/kg. Based on the risk assessment results, EFSA concluded that the short-term and long-term intake of residues resulting from the use of fluxapyroxad, according to the reported agricultural practices, is unlikely to present a risk to consumer health. The long-term consumer risk assessment is indicative, pending the submission of the confirmatory data requested under the MRL review.

INTRODUCTION: Safe and nutritious food is the key to sustaining life and promoting good health. Unsafe food creates a vicious cycle of disease and malnutrition, particularly affecting infants, young children, the elderly, and the sick. METHODS: The study consisted of two phases, a descriptive cross-sectional study, and an intervention study. Both studies were conducted in the Regional Director of Health Services area, Kalutara, Sri Lanka. The descriptive cross-sectional study [food handlers (n = 904), food establishments (n = 421)] was conducted with the objective of determining factors associated with food handling practices among food handlers and in food establishments. The interventional study was a three-arm non-randomized controlled community trial (n = 50 per arm) with interventions of a participatory consumer group, educational package group, and control group. RESULTS: The food establishments assessment tool (FEAT) contained 11 domains including 75 items with more than a hundred assessment points with a guide to conduct an assessment of food handling. The descriptive cross-sectional study found that food handlers' knowledge of food handling practices of storing milk, fish, and meat and fast-food items containing fish and meat was very poor (96.6%). Visibility of the last place of processing inside the food establishments to consumers was inadequate (19.2%) and the absence of the above-mentioned factor was significantly associated with an unsatisfactory level of food handling score in food establishments (p = 0.03). The unsatisfactory level of food handling was significantly higher among food establishments with non-personal ownership (p = 0.005), a low number of notices issued by legal authorities (p = 0.02), dereliction of duty by owners/managers on supervising (p < 0.001) and lack of medical certification to food handlers (p < 0.0001). Participatory consumer group intervention and educational package interventions were effective in improving food handling practices in food establishments and among food handlers (p < 0.0001). Two independent sample analysis using the Mann-Whitney U test showed, the best improvement in food handling practices was by participatory consumer group intervention (p < 0.0001) and the second was educational package intervention (p < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: Knowledge and practices of food handling among participants were poor. A participatory consumer group is more effective than an educational package on improving food handling practices both among food handlers and in food establishments.

Introduction: The research in consumer neuroscience has identified computational methods, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, as a significant frontier for advancement. Previously, we utilized functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and artificial neural networks (ANNs) to model brain processes related to brand preferences in a paradigm exempted from motor actions. In the current study, we revisit this data, introducing recent advancements in explainable artificial intelligence (xAI) to gain insights into this domain. By integrating fMRI data analysis, machine learning, and xAI, our study aims to search for functional brain networks that support brand perception and, ultimately, search for brain networks that disentangle between preferred and indifferent brands, focusing on the early processing stages. Methods: We applied independent component analysis (ICA) to overcome the expected fMRI data's high dimensionality, which raises hurdles in AI applications. We extracted pertinent features from the returned ICs. An ANN is then trained on this data, followed by pruning and retraining processes. We then apply explanation techniques, based on path-weights and Shapley values, to make the network more transparent, explainable, and interpretable, and to obtain insights into the underlying brain processes. Results: The fully connected ANN model obtained an accuracy of 54.6%, which dropped to 50.4% after pruning. However, the retraining process allowed it to surpass the fully connected network, achieving an accuracy of 55.9%. The path-weights and Shapley-based analysis concludes that, regarding brand perception, the expected initial participation of the primary visual system is followed. Other brain areas participate in early processing and discriminate between preferred and indifferent brands, such as the cuneal and the lateral occipital cortices. Discussion: The most important finding is that a split between processing brands|preferred from brands|indifferent may occur during early processing stages, still in the visual system. However, we found no evidence of a "decision pipeline" that would yield if a brand is preferred or indifferent. The results suggest the existence of a "tagging"-like process in parallel flows in the extrastriate. Network training dynamics aggregate specific processes within the hidden nodes by analyzing the model's hidden layer. This yielded that some nodes contribute to both global brand appraisal and specific brand category classification, shedding light on the neural substrates of decision-making in response to brand stimuli.

PURPOSE: To explore the perspectives of primary caregivers of children with cerebral palsy (CP) who had spinal surgery for scoliosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews and guided by qualitative description methodology. Participants were caregivers of children with CP aged 5-18, who had undergone spinal surgery for scoliosis in Australia. The research team included a parent with lived experience. RESULTS: Fourteen participants (8 biological mothers), aged 40-49 years, completed online semi-structured interviews. Four themes were identified emerged. Life with a child with CP underpinned all experiences which were founded on familiarity with their child, medical procedures, and hospitalisation. Three subthemes were parents are the experts in knowing their child, children are vulnerable, and impact on caregivers. Theme 2 involved the significance of decision making to proceed with surgery. Theme 3 underscored a need to be prepared for the surgical journey and, in Theme 4, participants spoke of needing to expect the unexpected. CONCLUSION: The findings highlight the importance of understanding caregiver experiences and can help inform health professionals and other families in the decision-making process, preparing for and navigating spinal surgery.


Spinal surgery for scoliosis in children with cerebral palsy is a major surgery and poses substantial challenges for the family.Understanding the magnitude of the decision for families to proceed with surgery will equip health professionals to adequately support and partner with families.Detailed information and extensive preparation are necessary for families to proceed with and navigate surgery, the hospital stay and to return home and to the community.

According to the United Nations, more than 800 million people are exposed to starvation. It is predicted that the world population will face much more serious starvation for reasons such as global warming, diseases, economic problems, rapid urbanization, and destruction of agricultural areas and water resources. Thus, there are significant hesitations about the sustainability of food resources, and the search for alternative food sources has increased. One of the leading alternative food sources is insects. Although the use of edible insects has been accepted in some areas of the world, entomophagy is not preferred in some countries due to sociocultural conditions, health concerns, neophobia, and entomophobia. Many people do not accept the direct consumption of raw insects, but insects can be transformed into more preferred forms by using different cooking techniques. Some ground edible insects are satisfactory in terms of nutritional value and have a reasonable level of acceptability when added to products such as bread, tortilla, and pasta in varying percentages. The world market value of edible insects was estimated to be US$3.2 million in 2021 and US$17.6 billion in 2032. In this review, the current and future situation of insects as an alternative food source is comprehensively discussed.

GOAL AND AIMS: To test sleep/wake transition detection of consumer sleep trackers and research-grade actigraphy during nocturnal sleep and simulated peri-sleep behavior involving minimal movement. FOCUS TECHNOLOGY: Oura Ring Gen 3, Fitbit Sense, AXTRO Fit 3, Xiaomi Mi Band 7, and ActiGraph GT9X. REFERENCE TECHNOLOGY: Polysomnography. SAMPLE: Sixty-three participants (36 female) aged 20-68. DESIGN: Participants engaged in common peri-sleep behavior (reading news articles, watching videos, and exchanging texts) on a smartphone before and after the sleep period. They were woken up during the night to complete a short questionnaire to simulate responding to an incoming message. CORE ANALYTICS: Detection and timing accuracy for the sleep onset times and wake times. ADDITIONAL ANALYTICS AND EXPLORATORY ANALYSES: Discrepancy analysis both including and excluding the peri-sleep activity periods. Epoch-by-epoch analysis of rate and extent of wake misclassification during peri-sleep activity periods. CORE OUTCOMES: Oura and Fitbit were more accurate at detecting sleep/wake transitions than the actigraph and the lower-priced consumer sleep tracker devices. Detection accuracy was less reliable in participants with lower sleep efficiency. IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL OUTCOMES: With inclusion of peri-sleep periods, specificity and Kappa improved significantly for Oura and Fitbit, but not ActiGraph. All devices misclassified motionless wake as sleep to some extent, but this was less prevalent for Oura and Fitbit. CORE CONCLUSIONS: Performance of Oura and Fitbit is robust on nights with suboptimal bedtime routines or minor sleep disturbances. Reduced performance on nights with low sleep efficiency bolsters concerns that these devices are less accurate for fragmented or disturbed sleep.

This research aimed to (1) discover the appropriate formula for the production of Nam Dok Mai mango cheese analog products and (2) study the physical, nutritional, microbial, and sensory properties of the produced Nam Dok Mai mango cheese analogs. To investigate the appropriate formula, the factors studied included the pH value of Nam Dok Mai mango juice (2.50 or 3.00) and the proportion of salted butter (18.0% or 19.5%) and carrageenan (0.8% or 0.9%). The study was conducted by using the factorials in a completely randomized design experiment. It was found that the optimal formula for the Nam Dok Mai mango cheese analog consisted of 33.0% casein protein, 46.0% Nam Dok Mai mango juice (pH 3), 19.5% salted butter, 0.5% sodium citrate, 0.9% carrageenan, and 0.1% xanthan gum. Regarding the nutritional value, it was found that the Nam Dok Mai cheese analog (100 g) contained 129.00 µg of ß-carotene, 148.41 mg of calcium, 1.15 g of dietary fiber, and 21.50 µg of vitamin A. Sixty-eight percent of consumers scored it as "moderate" for overall acceptability. However, when the consumers received the nutritional information of the Nam Dok Mai mango cheese analog, many (76%) said they would buy the product because it contains vitamin A that important for vision and eye health. Consuming enough vitamin A helps protect against certain eye diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration. This is consistent with the lifestyles of people today who use their eyes too hard, such as staring at a computer screen and cell phones all day.

Functional food products remain the focus of current market trends toward healthier nutrition. The consumption of meat-based functional foods has been a topic of interest in food innovation since some of these products generate controversy due to their possible adverse effects on health. However, studies have demonstrated that meat-based functional products are considered an opportunity to improve the nutritional profile of meat products through the addition of biologically valuable components and to meet the specific needs of consumers. In this sense, some strategies and techniques are applied for processing and developing functional meat products, such as modifying carcass composition through feeding, reformulating meat products, and processing conditions. This review focuses on presenting developed and evaluated strategies that allow the production of healthy and functional meat foods, which application has successfully achieved the sensory, nutritional, and technological parameters mainly affected by such application.

The agribusiness sector is constantly seeking solutions to enhance food security, sustainability, and resilience. Recent estimates indicate that one-third of the total food production remains unused due to waste or limited shelf life, resulting in negative environmental and ethical consequences. Consequently, exploring technological solutions to extend the shelf life of food products could be a crucial option to address this issue. However, the success of these technological solutions is closely linked to the perception of the end-consumers, particularly in the short term. Based on these considerations, this paper presents a systematic literature review of the main technological innovations in the fresh meat industry and of consumers' perceptions of such innovations. Regarding innovative technologies, this review focused on active and smart packaging. Amidst various technological innovations, including the utilization of fundamental matrices and natural additives, a noticeable gap exists in consumer perception studies. This study represents the first comprehensive compilation of research on consumers' perceptions and acceptance of innovations designed to extend the shelf life of fresh meat. Moreover, it sheds light on the existing barriers that hinder the complete embrace of these innovations.

Introduction: This study aims to identify the negative customer experiences reflected in complaints against diagnostic centers using data mining tools. Methods: Analyzing customer complaints from a consumer complaints website, the Apriori algorithm was employed to uncover frequent patterns and identify key areas of concern. The frequency and distribution of terms used in complaints were also analyzed, and word clouds were generated to visualize the findings. Results: The study revealed that major areas of unfavorable customer experience included delayed test reports, erroneous test results, difficulties scheduling appointments, staff incivility, subpar service, and medical negligence. Discussion: These findings and the proposed model can guide diagnostic centers in incorporating data mining tools for customer experience analysis, enabling managers to proactively address issues and view complaints as opportunities for service improvement rather than legal liabilities.

Consumption of tea and herbal infusions (THIs) have a long history in traditional medicine and cultural practices. The health-promoting benefits attributed to THIs are considered influential factors in consumer choices. However, there is limited data on consumer choices and attitudes that might interfere with the positive effects associated with THIs consumption. The aim of this study was to investigate the consumption pattern and behavior of THIs consumers in Portugal, assessing the influence of socio-demographic factors on the selection of THIs products and consumer practices related to these beverages. An online survey was conducted, and from the collected data, 720 responses met the aim of the study and were further analyzed. Most of the respondents were female, 74.4%, belonging to the 40-60 age group (40.6%) and were medium consumers of THIs (47.2%). Green tea was the most consumed type among participants, and its consumption was associated not only with age but also with the pattern of THIs consumption. Despite that, participants preferred herbal infusions, with citronella, chamomile, and lemon verbena being the most consumed types. For certain types of herbal infusions, consumption was associated with age, while other types were preferred by moderate or heavy consumers. Most participants purchased THIs in supermarkets, registered trademark and brand stores, in the form of THIs bag. Light consumers use only bag, while medium/heavy consumers indicated the use of other forms. Almost half of the respondents admitted to not reading the information on product labels before consumption and using THIs after the expiry date, while only one-third of them declared paying attention to the label instructions. This study revealed the impact of socio-demographic factors as age on the consumption patterns and preferences of THIs of consumers. Of concern is the neglect of label usage among Portuguese consumers. This emphasizes the urgency of implementing interventions to guide proper label use and promote good consumption practices to ensure the quality of THIs products.

Recent studies have shown that the analytic-holistic theory is applicable in sensory science-related areas. Analytic and holistic cognitive style groups have been found to have significantly different perceptions and behaviors within food-related scenarios. These differences were further investigated and identified within the current study, focusing on specific areas of common sensory tests and analyses where analytic and holistic cognitive style groups may differ from one another. Before the main study, 419 volunteers were classified into three groups based on their scores to the Analysis-Holism Scale (AHS). The extreme groups (65 adults for each) were identified as the "analytic" and "holistic" cognitive style groups, respectively. Participants evaluated fruit-flavored beverages and fruit samples for their impression of the intensity or hedonic aspects in the study conducted over two sessions. Each session either employed solely category or line scale for the questions. Analyses focused on the analytic and holistic group comparisons in mean, variance, penalty analysis, and pre- and post-AHS score differences. Results showed that the holistic group exhibited significantly higher mean scores and standard deviations in the hedonic ratings of fruit samples than the analytic group did. Compared to the analytic group, the holistic group showed significantly smaller mean drops in overall liking across the five Just-About-Right (JAR) questions related to flavors or tastes of the mixed-fruit flavored water. A significant difference between the AHS scores measured before and after the sensory evaluation was observed in the holistic group, but not in the analytic group. In conclusion, our findings provide empirical evidence that cognitive styles affect consumer responses to food or beverage samples during sensory evaluation tasks. This implies that sensory professionals may consider these analytic-holistic contrasts while exploring consumer responses to their target samples.

Introduction: This cross-sectional study aimed to assess Online food delivery applications (OFDA) usage trends among adolescent users in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), focusing on their perceptions of healthy food options and food safety (n = 532). Methods: Sociodemographic information, frequency of OFDA use, factors affecting food choices, and perceptions of healthy food and food safety were investigated. A total perception score was calculated for each participant. Results: Most participants used OFDAs weekly (65.4%), favoring fast food (85.7%). Factors like appearance and price drove food choices (65.0%), while taste and cost hindered healthy food orders (29.7 and 28.2%). Younger and frequent users had lower scores for perceiving healthy food, while seeking healthy options was associated with higher scores (p < 0.05). Females and those seeking healthy food showed higher food safety scores (p < 0.05). Discussion: The study suggests tailored interventions to promote healthier choices and improve food safety perceptions among adolescents using OFDAs in the UAE.
